Nana Bosoma Market traders lament delay in reconstruction project in Sunyani

Market women at the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani have expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in the reconstruction of the market, saying the situation has left them vulnerable to harsh weather conditions and frequent losses.

According to the traders, the old market was demolished about three years ago after authorities assured them that a modern cement structure would be built to provide a safer and more conducive trading environment. They were subsequently relocated to a temporary section of the market while construction was expected to continue.

However, the traders say the temporary site lacks proper roofing and permanent structures, exposing them and their goods to the elements.

"It has been about three years now, and the project is still not complete. Whenever it rains, we really suffer," a trader said.

Another trader lamented that "All our foodstuffs get destroyed whenever it rains."

The incomplete project remains at a standstill as traders continue to display their goods on tables and the bare ground, often covering tomatoes and other perishable items with tarpaulins in an attempt to protect them from rain.

The affected traders are appealing to the relevant authorities to expedite the reconstruction of the market, stressing that hundreds of traders depend on the facility for their livelihoods and urgently need a safe and permanent place to conduct their businesses.
