Ignatius Afrifa Storms Anaji to File NPP Western Regional Chair Bid

Former Amenfi West candidate vows to reorganize party structures, restore Western Region’s political influence, and end internal bickering.

The race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Western Regional Chairmanship intensified on Friday, 17th July 2026, as Hon. Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa stormed the party’s regional office in Anaji, Takoradi, to file his nomination forms amid a powerful show of support from constituency chairmen, executive members, and enthusiastic grassroots followers.

The former Amenfi West parliamentary candidate declared that his mission is nothing short of a full structural overhaul of the party’s regional machinery. Addressing the media after submitting his forms, Hon. Afrifa urged delegates to scrutinize his track record, managerial competence, and long-standing loyalty to the party.

Reflecting on his journey from Asankrangwa to Takoradi, he highlighted his deep roots in the Western Region and his extensive experience as a business leader, youth organizer, and philanthropist.

“I have been on the ground, actively serving our communities since 2003,” he said. “I understand the terrain of the Western Region because I have lived and worked here. Beyond politics, I have built businesses and employed our youth in Tema and Takoradi. I bring proven leadership, strong managerial capacity, and the negotiation skills required to lead a diverse region like ours.”

With the internal contest heating up, Hon. Afrifa cautioned aspirants and party executives against divisive conduct. He reminded the party that internal elections are a family affair and that the real contest remains against the opposition. He warned that mudslinging and petty infighting only weaken the party’s brand and fuel voter apathy.

“The NPP is not a bad party,” he stressed. “It is our own internal bickering that has historically caused apathy among our base. We must desist from actions that tarnish our image. What we need now is a unifying leader who can bridge the gap, heal old wounds, and bring everyone back to the table.”

Hon. Afrifa further emphasized that restoring the Western Region’s political and developmental prominence is central to his agenda. He expressed concern that the region’s influence had waned in recent years and pledged to reposition it as a strategic powerhouse for the NPP.

“The relevance of the Western Region must be restored. My priority is to make this region a symbolic and highly influential powerhouse for the NPP,” he declared.

Visibly moved by the massive turnout, Hon. Afrifa expressed deep gratitude to the party leaders who accompanied him, describing their presence as both an endorsement and a responsibility. He said the overwhelming support has energized him to deliver victory and work closely with every faction within the regional party.

His entourage included several influential constituency heads, among them Alhaji Rashid Amadu (Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency Chairman), Isaac Kwasi Anim (Amenfi East Constituency Chairman), Mr. Buckman Samuel Valentine (Amenfi Central Constituency Officer), and Christopher Williams Kukwaw (Amenfi West First Vice Chairman), alongside newly elected and former executives from across the region.
