NPP annuls constituency elections in Adansi Asokwa, Bantama and Afigya Sekyere East
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has annulled, with immediate effect, constituency executive elections conducted in Bantama, Adansi Asokwa and Afigya Sekyere East.
The elections were held over the weekend as part of the opposition party's nationwide reorganisation exercise.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, and signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, the party said the decision followed a meeting of its National Steering Committee.
According to the NPP, the elections in the three constituencies were conducted in violation of party directives, the regulations governing the 2026 constituency executive elections and, in some instances, existing court orders.
"The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has, with immediate effect, annulled the purported Constituency Executive Elections conducted over the weekend in certain constituencies on the grounds that the elections were conducted in flagrant disregard of Party directives, the Rules and Regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections, and, where applicable, subsisting court orders," a portion of the statement, read.
The party further announced that the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee had been summoned to appear before the National Steering Committee on Tuesday, July 21, to explain the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the elections in the affected constituencies.
It also referred disputes arising from the Asante Akyem Central constituency election, together with all other unresolved constituency election matters, to the Electoral Affairs Committee of the National Council for advice and recommendations.
The NPP said the measures form part of efforts to protect the integrity of its internal electoral processes and ensure that all party elections are conducted in accordance with its constitution and regulations.
