GoldBod honours NACOC with GH¢12.65m reward for anti-gold smuggling operation
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has presented GH¢12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) as its share of the proceeds from the sale of 17 gold bars seized from illicit gold traders in 2025.
The amount represents 50 per cent of the proceeds realised from the sale of the confiscated gold and forms part of GoldBod's reward policy aimed at encouraging intelligence gathering and strengthening collaboration with state security agencies.
The presentation was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, in which GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal gold trading and protecting the country's mineral resources.
"Under GoldBod's reward policy, 10% of the proceeds is allocated to the informant whose credible intelligence led to the successful operation," the statement read in part.
The statement explained that, in addition to the reward for the informant, GoldBod's Board of Directors approved an extra 20 per cent of the proceeds for the NACOC officers who participated in the operation in recognition of the risks they took.
It added that the remaining 20 per cent was awarded to NACOC as an institution for deploying its personnel and operational resources during the exercise.
Receiving the cheque, NACOC Director-General, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, commended GoldBod for honouring its commitment and reaffirmed the Commission's resolve to continue collaborating with the agency in the fight against illegal gold trading.
GoldBod said the reward scheme forms part of broader efforts to encourage public cooperation, enhance intelligence-led operations and safeguard Ghana's gold resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
