Three granted GH¢50,000 bail each over Bidieso NPP constituency election disturbance
Three persons accused of disrupting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Constituency Executive Election at Bidieso in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region have been granted bail of GH¢50,000 each.
The suspects, identified as Haruna Iddrisu, popularly known as Dole, Osei Boateng, also known as Nana Osei, and Charles Opoku, alias Blackman, are facing charges for allegedly attacking the polling station with offensive weapons and interfering with the electoral process.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on July 12, 2026, when the suspects allegedly stormed the voting centre, scattered ballot boxes and threatened election officials and voters.
The police, in a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday, said a reinforcement team was deployed to the scene, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. An axe and a cutlass were also retrieved during the operation.
The suspects were subsequently arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court, where they were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, specifically rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court granted each accused person bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two justified sureties and adjourned the case to August 10, 2026, to allow the police to continue investigations.
The Ghana Police Service said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other individuals suspected to have been involved in the disturbance.
