Czech Embassy, Lemon Family Foundation donate 400 dual desks to basic schools during Edina Bakatue festival
As part of activities marking the 2026 Edina Bakatue Festival, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Accra, led by His Excellency Pavel Bílek, in collaboration with the Lemon Family Foundation, donated approximately 400 dual desks to basic schools across the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (K.E.E.A.) Municipality.
The donation, which took place on Wednesday, July 8, was aimed at improving teaching and learning by providing pupils with comfortable classroom furniture.
Speaking during the presentation, H.E. Pavel Bílek said the initiative forms part of the Embassy's commitment to supporting education and improving learning conditions for children. He noted that having adequate desks would enable pupils to study in a more comfortable environment and enhance their academic experience.
The Development Chief of Elmina, David Duron, also known by his stool name Nana Ekow Ankama I, explained that the project was inspired by a visit he made to a basic school at Bantuma in Elmina.
According to him, the sight of pupils sitting on the floor and on stones during lessons deeply touched him and moved him to take action.
"Seeing children forced to learn while sitting on the floor and on stones brought me to tears. I knew something had to be done to restore dignity to their learning environment," he said.
Chief Executive Officer of the Lemon Family Foundation, Mr. Isaac Yirenkyi Yeboah, clarified that although the donation formed part of the Bakatue Festival activities, the desks were distributed to schools across the entire K.E.E.A. Municipality and not only to schools within Elmina.
He reaffirmed the Foundation's commitment to supporting education and assured residents that more interventions aimed at improving educational infrastructure would be undertaken in the future.
The donation was warmly received by education authorities, traditional leaders and beneficiary schools, who expressed appreciation to the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Lemon Family Foundation and all partners for investing in the education and future of children within the municipality.
The initiative added a strong community development dimension to the 2026 Edina Bakatue Festival, demonstrating that the celebration is not only about preserving culture and tradition but also about promoting education and improving the lives of people within the Edina Traditional Area and the wider K.E.E.A. Municipality.
