AMA boosts learning environment in public schools with distribution of desks

Nearly 1,000 pupils in selected public schools across the Accra Metropolis are set to benefit from improved classroom conditions following the distribution of 997 school desks by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

The desks, comprising mono, dual and hexagonal models, were procured through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) as part of efforts to address furniture shortages and enhance teaching and learning in public basic schools.

The intervention covers eight schools within the Assembly's three sub-metropolitan districts—Okaikoi South, Ashiedu Keteke and Ablekuma South.

The beneficiary schools are Bubiashie, Kaneshie, Ussher, Ga Mashie, Aayalolo, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi and Ojoo public schools.

Under the distribution, Bubiashie and Kaneshie schools each received 166 desks; Ussher, Ga Mashie, and Aayalolo schools were allocated 115, 125, and 92 desks, respectively; while Korle Gonno, Mamprobi, and Ojoo schools received 115, 105, and 112 desks.

The Mayor of Accra, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said the initiative reflects the Assembly's commitment to creating a conducive learning environment for pupils and supporting quality education in public schools.

He noted that adequate classroom furniture plays a vital role in improving pupils' comfort, concentration and academic performance, adding that the intervention also fulfils the Government's commitment to improve infrastructure and learning conditions in public schools.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to improve educational facilities across the metropolis and ensure that pupils have access to an environment that supports effective teaching and learning.
