Ecobank Ghana supports flood victims with GHS257,000 relief package

Ecobank Ghana has donated relief items worth over GHS257,000 to support individuals and families affected by the recent floods that hit Accra and other parts of the country.

This comes after devastating floods that hit parts of Accra after hours of heavy rainfall on Monday, June 29, which resulted in about 30 deaths, over 38,000 residents displaced and properties destroyed.

The donation was made under the bank's “Ecobank Stands With Accra” initiative and presented at the Jubilee House as part of ongoing national efforts to provide assistance to flood-affected communities.

The items donated include 3,567 units of medicines across 18 essential drug categories, 1,000 bags of sachet water, 195 student mattresses, 250 blankets and 10 bales of assorted used clothes.

Speaking during the presentation, the Regional Head of Consumer and Commercial Banking at Ecobank Ghana, Mrs Charlotte Amanquah, who represented the bank's Managing Director, Mrs Abena Osei-Poku, said the intervention reflects the bank's commitment to supporting communities during difficult periods.

"The recent floods have left many families facing significant challenges. As a bank deeply rooted in the communities we serve, we believe our responsibility extends beyond banking," she said as quoted in a press statement issued on July 14.

Mrs Amanquah added that the donation was made to complement national efforts aimed at providing relief and comfort to affected families.

She also commended the government, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the security services and other stakeholders for their role in coordinating relief efforts.

Receiving the items on behalf of the government, Legal Counsel to the President, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, expressed appreciation to Ecobank Ghana for what she described as a timely intervention.

"Government's response alone is not enough, which is why partnerships such as this are so important. We commend Ecobank for standing with Ghana at a difficult time and encourage other corporate organisations to emulate this gesture in support of affected families," the statement quoted her as saying.
