Obuasi: Three arrested for allegedly disrupting NPP constituency elections, granted GHS50,000 bail
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three persons for allegedly disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election at Bidieso in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Haruna Iddrisu alias Dole, Osei Boateng alias Nana Osei and Charles Opoku alias Blackman, were arrested after police intervened during the disturbance at the polling station on Saturday, July 12.
The three have since been arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court, where they pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.
According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, the suspects "stormed the polling station on 12th July 2026 armed with offensive weapons, scattered ballot boxes, and threatened election officials and voters."
The police said a reinforcement team responded swiftly to the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
During the operation, officers retrieved one axe and one cutlass believed to have been used in the disturbance.
The Bekwai Circuit Court granted each of the accused persons bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two justified sureties.
The case has been adjourned to August 10, while police continue investigations and pursue other suspects believed to have been involved in the disruption.
