Dennis Miracles Aboagye arrested by EOCO at Accra International Airport
Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Director aspirant, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The development was disclosed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, who condemned the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, July 12.
According to the party, Aboagye was arrested at the Accra International Airport by EOCO officers with the assistance of immigration officials.
It alleged that since his arrest, his lawyers have been denied access to him, his whereabouts have not been disclosed, and no formal charges have been preferred against him.
The NPP has therefore called on EOCO to "release Dennis Miracles Aboagye immediately, or charge him and put him before a court of competent jurisdiction as the Constitution requires," part of the statement said.
The party further accused the government of using state institutions to intimidate political opponents, arguing that the arrest was politically motivated.
"Let us be clear about what this is. It is not law enforcement. It is intimidation," the statement added.
The NPP also demanded that Miracles Aboagye be granted unrestricted access to his lawyers and family, insisting that his constitutional rights must be respected.
Justin Kodua urged party supporters to remain calm and law-abiding despite the development, saying intimidation would not silence the NPP.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Aboagye's arrest is linked to corruption-related investigations concerning his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCC).
