GNACOPS urges private schools to participate in National Sanitation Day exercise
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has directed all its member schools nationwide to actively participate in the National Sanitation Day exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2026, by dedicating the first two hours of the school day to intensive clean-up activities.
In a communiqué signed by its National Executive Director, Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, the Council urged private schools to mobilise learners, teachers and non-teaching staff to clean their school compounds and surrounding communities as part of efforts to promote environmental hygiene and instil a lasting culture of cleanliness among students.
According to GNACOPS, the nationwide exercise supports the government's sanitation agenda and underscores the private education sector's commitment to creating clean, healthy and safe learning environments.
The Council also encouraged schools to use the exercise as a practical learning opportunity by educating students on environmental stewardship, proper waste management and good sanitation practices.
To document the initiative, GNACOPS has requested all participating schools to take clear photographs of their clean-up activities and submit them to the Secretariat through its official communication platforms immediately after the exercise.
The Council said the photographs will be compiled to showcase the collective contribution of private schools to the national sanitation campaign.
GNACOPS expressed confidence that its member institutions would once again demonstrate their commitment to national development through their active participation in the exercise.
It commended member schools for their continued cooperation and dedication to promoting environmental cleanliness, stressing that maintaining hygienic school environments is essential to safeguarding the health and well-being of learners while nurturing responsible citizenship.
The Council believes the coordinated participation of private schools across the country will contribute significantly to the success of the National Sanitation Day exercise and further strengthen the role of private education in advancing Ghana's environmental sustainability agenda.
