GTEC names unaccredited tertiary institutions, lists 50 affected campuses and centres

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has urged prospective students, parents and guardians to verify the accreditation status of tertiary institutions before accepting admission offers after identifying 50 institutions and learning centres operating without valid accreditation.

In a public notice issued on July 8, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the affected facilities comprise 14 unaccredited public university learning centres and 36 tertiary institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired.

According to GTEC, the advisory is intended to protect prospective students from enrolling in institutions or study centres whose accreditation status could jeopardise the validity of their academic qualifications.

The Commission explained that students who enrol in institutions or learning centres without valid accreditation risk losing valuable time, financial resources and future career opportunities.

The 14 public university learning centres identified by GTEC are:

GTEC also named 36 tertiary institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired. They include:

  • Unique Citizens College
  • Jayee University College
  • Zenith University College
  • Modal College
  • Kings and Queens Medical College
  • Royal Nursing College
  • Community College, Takoradi
  • University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies
  • Archbishop Porter's Girls' Polytechnic

  • The Commission said the remaining institutions on the list are also operating with expired institutional accreditation.

GTEC advised prospective students, parents, guardians and the general public to confirm the accreditation status of institutions, learning centres and academic programmes with the Commission before accepting admission offers.

It stressed that the notice forms part of efforts to safeguard students by ensuring they have accurate and up-to-date information on the accreditation status of tertiary institutions and their affiliated learning centres across the country.
