Deteriorating road in front of Korle Bu hospital raises safety concerns
The road leading to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has deteriorated significantly, with deep potholes turning the stretch into a hazardous route for motorists, patients, and emergency services.
Drivers who use the road say they are often forced to swerve dangerously to avoid the potholes, leading to severe traffic congestion during peak hours and increasing the risk of road accidents. Commercial and private vehicle owners also report frequent damage to tyres and suspension systems.
Health advocates and commuters have expressed concern over the state of the road, noting its importance as the main access route to Ghana’s premier referral facility, which serves thousands of patients daily.
“It is very dangerous for ambulances to use that road, especially during emergencies,” a commuter said. “Korle Bu Road being the lifeline of many patients, can’t be in a situation like this.”
Members of the public are calling on the government and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the affected stretch to improve safety and ease movement.
