Immigration Service boss calls for stronger command synergy to tackle evolving border security threats

The Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Samuel Basintale Amadu, has called on regional commanders to strengthen collaboration and coordination to improve border security and enhance the Service's operational effectiveness.

He said stronger command synergy was essential to addressing emerging security threats, improving accountability and ensuring sustainable institutional growth.

The GIS boss said this while speaking at the opening of the Ghana Immigration Service's five-day Regional Commanders' Conference in Accra on Monday, July 6, held under the theme, "Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth."

"In today's dynamic security landscape, no command can operate effectively in isolation. Sustainable growth within the Ghana Immigration Service can only be achieved through strong collaboration, effective communication, mutual support, and a shared sense of purpose amongst all commands and controls," he said.

According to the Comptroller-General, the conference was particularly significant as it is the first major regional commanders' conference under his leadership since assuming office in March last year.

Mr Amadu said regional and major entry point commanders remained the operational backbone of the Service because effective leadership at all levels is critical to maintaining efficient border management, boosting staff morale and achieving operational success.

He observed that the changing nature of migration, transnational crimes, border security challenges and technological advancements required a more coordinated and professional Immigration Service.

"The evolving immigration landscape, rising transnational crimes, border security challenges, and rapid technological advances demand a more professional, innovative, and coordinated Ghana Immigration Service," he stated.

The Comptroller-General encouraged participants to use the conference to openly discuss operational challenges and propose practical solutions that would strengthen the institution, improve professionalism and support the Service's ongoing transformation.
