Two bodies retrieved after flooding at Adakope near Weija

The bodies of two people believed to have died in the recent flooding have been recovered at Adakope near Weija in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The remains were discovered on the evening of Thursday, July 2. Confirming the incident, the Presiding Member of the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, said the victims are suspected to have been swept away by floodwaters during the heavy rains.

He disclosed that the bodies have been transported by the police to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation while investigations continue.

The latest discovery has heightened concerns over the recurring flooding that continues to affect communities within the municipality, causing loss of lives and destruction of property whenever heavy rains occur.

Mr. Blankson appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to provide the Assembly with urgent financial support to help tackle the persistent flooding challenges confronting the area.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that the government will begin distributing relief items to flood-affected communities across the country from Saturday, July 4, as part of efforts to assist victims of the recent floods.
