World Vision Ghana donates relief supplies to flood victims in Agortime-Ziope
World Vision Ghana has donated relief supplies to support households affected by the recent floods that displaced about 700 people, including children, across communities in the Agortime-Ziope District.
The donation, made through the Agortime-Ziope Area Programme, was presented to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) through the Agortime-Ziope District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the constituency to complement the district's emergency response efforts.
The relief items comprised dresses for adults and children, toothpaste, toothbrushes and Vaseline petroleum jelly. The supplies are intended to provide immediate support to affected families, particularly children and other vulnerable persons whose homes and livelihoods were affected by the Tuesday flooding in the district as a result of the heavy downpour in Togo and the district.
Presenting the items, the Regional Operations Manager of World Vision Ghana, Mr. Irvine Aboagye, said the donation demonstrates the organisation's commitment to standing with vulnerable children and families during emergencies. He noted that disasters such as flooding place enormous pressure on already vulnerable households and reiterated World Vision Ghana's commitment to working alongside government institutions and humanitarian partners to ensure affected families receive timely assistance.
The Programmes Manager for the Agortime Cluster, Mr. Eric Opoku Agyarko indicated the organisation’s commitment to support disaster preparedness and response initiatives that protect the lives, dignity and well-being of children and their families. He further emphasised that effective collaboration between development partners, local authorities and communities is essential to delivering coordinated humanitarian assistance and strengthening community resilience against future disasters.
Receiving the items on behalf of the district were the Member of Parliament for the Agortime-Ziope Constituency, Hon. Charles Agbeve; Mr Reuben Akuffo (District Coordinating Director); Mr. Courage Agbah (District Director of NADMO) and Madam Khadijah Yakubu (District Planning Officer) and other staff from the Assembly.
Hon. Charles Agbeve, after receiving the donation, expressed appreciation to World Vision Ghana for the timely intervention, describing the donation as a significant contribution to the district's ongoing relief efforts.
He further indicated that the items would be distributed to affected households to help address their immediate clothing and personal hygiene needs. He further highlighted that the flooding affected several communities across the district, leaving many households displaced and causing extensive damage to homes, personal belongings and sources of livelihood.
He then called on other humanitarian partners to come to the district's aid.
World Vision Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities before, during and after emergencies through partnerships that promote resilience, protect children and restore hope to families affected by disasters.
