GH¢350 million transferred for flood relief after Mahama orders Finance Ministry
The Ministry of Finance has released GH¢350 million to the National Disaster Management Committee to support emergency relief operations and flood mitigation measures following the recent devastating floods.
The disbursement follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama for immediate resources to be mobilised to assist affected communities and strengthen measures to reduce the risk of future flooding.
According to the Ministry, GH¢200 million has been earmarked for emergency relief to provide support for victims affected by the floods, while the remaining GH¢150 million will finance flood mitigation projects aimed at improving the country's resilience to similar disasters.
The Ministry explained that the funds were released from the Contingency Fund after receiving approval from Parliament's Finance Committee, in accordance with the provisions of the 1992 Constitution.
It further disclosed that a dedicated account had been opened at the Bank of Ghana, into which the full GH¢350 million was transferred to finance the National Emergency Flood Response Programme.
