Presbyterian Church Chairperson urges men to address present day challenges

The Ga Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Col. David Adoteye Asare, has urged delegates to focus not only on evaluating reports from the previous year but also on addressing the challenges confronting men today and contributing meaningfully to the growth of the Church's Men's Ministry.

Rev. Col. Adoteye Asare made the call in his keynote address at the 47th Annual Delegates Conference of the Men's Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in Accra.

He stressed that evaluation should lead to positive change rather than remain a routine exercise.

“Evaluation should make a difference; we evaluate to effect a change. Our evaluation should create awareness through teaching and by setting examples,” he said.

Speaking on the theme, “Celebrating Our Heritage; Building on the Foundation Already Laid: Men Using Spiritual Discipline as Building Blocks,” Rev. Col. Adoteye Asare said human beings are both physical and spiritual, and that both aspects require equal attention to achieve a fulfilling and productive life.

He noted that the physical body is often subjected to various desires that can lead people to lose self control, resulting in regrettable consequences.

The Ga Presbytery Chairperson explained that building on the foundation already laid requires sound governance and administration, strong doctrine and effective systems of worship.

He said the Church's core teachings include the authority of the Word of God, faith, grace, Christ as the foundation of the Church and the glory of God.

Rev. Col. Adoteye Asare also encouraged delegates to familiarise themselves with the Church's constitution to deepen their understanding of its guiding principles.

“I will urge you to find time to study at least some portions of the constitution, for example the purpose statement, vision, mission and values, so that we don't criticise out of ignorance,” he said.

He further emphasised the importance of godliness, saying, “It is better to train godly people because it promotes self discipline, a more orderly and productive life, and even a glorious life after physical death.”

In his remarks, the La District President of the Men's Fellowship, Mr. Michael Ako Tsakle, urged delegates to serve as role models and demonstrate the qualities expected of Christian fathers.

“We as fathers of the Church must exhibit Christian fatherly roles to motivate our children, who are looking up to us to follow suit. So let us be the role models as expected of us,” Mr. Tsakle said.
