Responsible citizenship and hard work surest path to national development — Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has stressed that responsible citizenship and hard work remain the surest path to Ghana's national development, urging Ghanaians to complement their faith with discipline and a commitment to serving the country.
According to the President, while prayer is essential, it must be matched with responsible leadership, honest work and active citizenship if the country is to achieve sustainable progress.
He said Ghana's recent economic gains demonstrate what can be achieved when citizens and leaders work together with a shared sense of purpose.
Mahama made the remarks at the National Christian Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held on Wednesday, July 1, where he called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, patriotism and accountability as the nation pursues long-term development.
"God answered our prayers, but as we received His guidance, we also accepted our responsibility to work hard and diligently. That partnership between divine guidance, responsible citizenship and hard work remains the surest path to national development," he stated.
The President said history has consistently shown that faith must be accompanied by action, citing biblical examples of leaders who combined prayer with planning and hard work to achieve results.
"Nation-building is not the responsibility of government alone. Every act of honesty by every Ghanaian strengthens our republic. Every act of kindness strengthens our communities. Every act of integrity strengthens our democracy, and every act of service strengthens Ghana," said the President.
