Julius Debrah celebrates GAFCSC at 50, applauds institution's legacy of excellence

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) has officially commenced its year-long 50th anniversary celebrations, with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah leading tributes to the institution's outstanding contribution to professional military education and national development.

The colourful launch, held at Hamidu Hall in Teshie, marked a significant milestone for one of Ghana's foremost military institutions, bringing together government officials, senior military officers, diplomats, academics and past commandants to celebrate five decades of excellence.

Speaking as the keynote speaker on the theme, "Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Professional Military Education," Hon. Julius Debrah praised GAFCSC for producing generations of competent, disciplined and visionary military leaders whose service has strengthened Ghana's security and enhanced peacekeeping efforts across Africa and beyond.

He commended the College for its unique ability to blend military professionalism with academic scholarship, describing it as a model institution that continues to build strategic leaders capable of responding to modern security threats.

President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, John Dramani Mahama, also paid tribute to the College in a commemorative message, stressing the need for continuous investment in professional military education.

He reaffirmed government's commitment to supporting GAFCSC so it can maintain its enviable reputation as a centre of excellence while addressing emerging security challenges confronting the sub-region.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was Hon. Julius Debrah's participation in a symbolic tree-planting exercise and the sod-cutting for the College's anniversary project, signifying growth, resilience and a renewed vision for the future.

The event was attended by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, Chief Director of the Ministry of Defence Emmanuel Kartey, senior military officers, former commandants and members of the academic community.

As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, GAFCSC has lined up a number of activities, including a public lecture, health walk, fun games, graduation dinner and a thanksgiving service to honour its rich history and chart a bold path for the future.

With its 50-year legacy firmly established, the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College continues to stand as a pillar of military professionalism, leadership development and regional security cooperation, with government reaffirming its unwavering support for the institution's continued growth and excellence.
