ECG restores power to most flood-hit areas in Greater Accra

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says it has restored electricity supply to most customers in Greater Accra following emergency power outages caused by Monday's flooding.

The company explained that the temporary curtailment of power supply was necessary to protect lives, safeguard property and prevent damage to critical electricity infrastructure as floodwaters inundated parts of the region.

However, ECG said some communities in low-lying areas remain without electricity because floodwaters have yet to recede, making it unsafe to restore supply.

"The emergency curtailment of power supply to customers from our Bulk Supply Points (BSPs) to save lives, protect properties, and safeguard critical power installations due to the flooding has largely been restored," the company said in an update issued on Tuesday, June 30.

According to ECG, its technical teams are working closely with the national emergency response agencies to restore electricity to the remaining affected communities as soon as conditions are declared safe.

The company added that engineers are also addressing localised faults caused by the flooding to ensure a full restoration of power.

"ECG wishes to assure customers that our fault teams are in contact with the national emergency teams to restore power immediately it is declared safe," the statement added.

The company further urged the public to exercise caution during the ongoing heavy rains and report any electricity-related hazards through its contact centre or official social media platforms for prompt intervention.
