‘Guard Lake Bosomtwe with special task force like River Nile in Egypt’ – KsTU lecturer to govt
A lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Collins Kankam Kwarteng, has called for a specially trained task force to guard Lake Bosomtwe on a regular basis.
“For such strategic natural resources, the country should get a well-trained security unit who will always be at post to protect the lake from any form of encroachment,” he said.
“Just like the Nile River in Egypt, the livelihood of residents at Bosomtwe revolves around the lake, and for that matter must be protected at all costs.”
Dr. Kwarteng made the call following reports of illegal mining activities in communities close to the lake.
Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC FM’s morning show, Nyansapo, on Monday, Dr. Kwarteng warned that the lake will soon be polluted if nothing is done to stop the miners.
He also called on residents in the district to resist any attempt by a few individuals to destroy the lake through any form of mining.
