Once an asset, now a liability – Kennedy Agyapong

Former Assin Central Constituency member of parliament, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, was clearly a useful member of NPP. He had helped the party in many ways by his personal public claims which were never disputed by anyone but supported by many.

By his fearlessness, audacity, and readiness to defend the NPP at all costs, he became the darling boy in the eyes of many NPP faithful. He was an asset to the party.

However, he has got himself carried away by the overwhelming true or false public support accorded him, tricked into believing that he is the bloodline of NPP and without him the party will collapse. Subsequently, he has fallen for the goading of some people to split from the NPP to form his own party if he could not have his own way in all things within the party.

Following his constant threats of disclosure of NPP’s secrets he is privy to and his self-proclaimed readiness to bring down the party failing to have his way, Kennedy has clearly in the eyes of the writer, become a gargantuan liability to the NPP.

He has as at writing negated all the accolades given to him upon the good things he had done for the party.

He is himself cloaked in the apparel of blackmailing he once correctly accused that allegedly false Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Anameyaw Anas of wearing.

Like “all die be die”, any act of threats to expose someone failing to do your bidding, whether it is in politics or investigative journalism, is equally blackmailing. Hence both Kennedy and Anas are blackmailers by that measure.

Kennedy’s hubristic vow to bring down the NPP, failing to have his selfish way, clearly makes him a liability to the party hence must no longer be tolerated or accommodated in the party.

He has become a liability like any infectious lethal disease that must quickly be treated before it becomes pandemic to kill many people.

This view of the writer is seen to be given credence to at Matthew 5:30. It says, "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

Most of his reasonings, claims and arguments are specious.

The NPP leaders must not fear him pulling some members away but to put their foot down to sack him from the party or allow him to go if he wants to go. His continuous membership of NPP as by his current attitude will cause the party more harm than good than if he were booted out of the party.

As one bad or rotten nut spoils the lot scooped and thrown into the mouth, so can Kennedy’s presence in the party cause their defeat in any future general elections.

He has proven himself the devil within same as Satan proved himself a bad angel and was cast out of the heavens.

As peace came to reign in heaven when Satan got thrown out, so will the NPP become peaceful and well organised when Kennedy, now the troublemaker, is shown the exit.

The writer’s sword is double-edged, sharpened on both sides hence will comment on the bad attitudes of the NPP leadership.

Is it right to change or amend your constitution and standing procedural rules and regulations midway in the campaign for general elections? The answer is a big no, regardless of the views to be expressed by the leaders. This attitude by the leaders has always been causing problems to the party and it needs to change.

A fool is he who does not change when faced with the reality or truth.

Does the leadership of the NPP open their doors to the foot soldiers when they win elections as the NDC does? Do they try to look after them and care about them? Not that much. These are the things, whether populist or not, that Kennedy is capitalising on to pull the crowd to himself.

Nevertheless, the NPP can reorganise themselves, change their attitude, hit the road and God willing, all shall be well with them.

As you sacked Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong when they were seen to be sabotaging the NPP and you were able to win the 2016 general election, so shall it be with you if you sack Kennedy.

That attitude of “if I can’t succeed everyone else must fail” by Kennedy is evil and selfish and must not be tolerated.

I liked Kennedy and would have loved to see him play a bigger political role in Ghana, but his character is bringing him down. He is too full of himself, a negative attribute in democratic dispensation of politics.

The NPP must forge ahead without Kennedy!
