Launch of GaDangme Homowo and Youth Sports Festival postponed to July 25
The launch of the 2026 GaDangme Homowo Festival Celebrations and the GaDangme Youth Sports Festival, Tourism and Awards Programme has been postponed.
The event, which was originally scheduled for June 28, 2026, will now take place on July 25, according to organisers.
The postponement comes ahead of the annual Nungua Homowo Festival, which is scheduled for July 3.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the GaDangme Unity Organization, in collaboration with traditional authorities and event organisers, said the decision was taken to allow for the smooth observance of customary activities leading to the festival.
The organisers explained that several traditional rites and cultural observances require the full attention and participation of key stakeholders.
They noted that the rescheduling would ensure that these activities are observed without interruption.
“The decision was taken in the best interest of all stakeholders and to avoid clashes with important cultural and sporting activities,” the statement said.
Organisers also cited Ghana's upcoming FIFA World Cup match against Croatia as one of the reasons for the postponement.
According to them, some invited dignitaries and stakeholders are expected to travel to the United States to witness the match.
The organisers expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and appealed to the public, sponsors, participants and other stakeholders to continue supporting the programme.
The launch is expected to bring together traditional leaders, youth groups, sports enthusiasts, tourism stakeholders and members of the GaDangme community to promote culture, sports development and community unity.
Meanwhile, Sports Education and Management Promotions (SEM Promotions) will organise the second edition of the "Night of Republic Day" boxing event on July 31 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The main bout of the night will feature Ghana's Musah Rahman Lawson against Nigeria's Raimi Isiaka in an international contest to commemorate Ghana's Republic Day.
