Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia urges young women to be bold, purposeful

The National Coordinator of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), Ms. Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia, has encouraged young women, particularly students, to be bold, purposeful and determined in pursuing their aspirations and leadership ambitions.

She made the call at the Women of Valor and Influence Conference organised by the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) chapter of the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

The conference, held at the Silicon Valley Auditorium of the university, brought together students, youth leaders and prominent women within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to discuss leadership, personal development and women empowerment.

Speaking on the theme, “Bold, Purposeful and Influential: Shaping the Next Generation of Women Leaders,” Ms. Mawuenyefia stressed that courage and resilience were essential qualities for young women seeking to make a meaningful impact in society.

According to her, boldness should not be mistaken for the absence of fear but rather the willingness to act despite challenges and uncertainties.

“Boldness is recognising that the cost of inaction is greater than the cost of failure,” she stated, urging participants to seize opportunities and pursue their goals with confidence.

She further emphasised the importance of purpose in leadership, noting that purpose serves as a guiding force during difficult times and enables individuals to remain focused on their objectives.

“Purpose is what keeps you standing when everything else is shaking around you. You cannot be influential without being purposeful. Purpose gives you direction, and more than that, purpose gives you resilience,” she said.

Ms. Mawuenyefia also encouraged the students not to allow past mistakes or setbacks to hinder their future progress, stressing that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth and self-improvement.

“Mistakes make us human. There’s no time to waste on the past. I’ve made mistakes too, but I learnt from them and moved on. You are the next generation of women leaders. Stand firm, define what you stand for, and let your values guide you,” she advised.

The conference also featured notable women leaders within the NDC, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hon. Abigail Elorm Mensah, and the Greater Accra Deputy TEIN Coordinator, Hon. Naa Ayele Hammond.

Participants described the event as inspiring and empowering, with many expressing appreciation for the practical insights shared on leadership, confidence and purposeful living.

The conference formed part of efforts by the TEIN-GCTU women’s wing to inspire and equip young women with the skills and confidence needed to become influential leaders in their communities and beyond.
