Awutu Senya East MCE allegedly storms Obaatanpa Radio for discussing NDC internal dispute
The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini, has allegedly stormed the premises of Kasoa based Obaatanpa Radio accompanied by a group of individuals.
According to reports, the incident occurred while a programme was underway discussing ongoing internal disagreements within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency.
The constituency has in recent months been at the centre of reports of tensions between the office of the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, and some constituency executives of the NDC. The dispute, which is said to date back to 2020, has reportedly intensified in recent times.
Sources indicate that the MCE arrived at the station with several individuals during the broadcast, a development that has generated concern among media practitioners and residents.
Information available to Citi News further suggests that the MCE and those who accompanied him allegedly locked up the radio station following the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the reported closure of the station remain unclear, and it is not immediately known whether any formal complaint has been lodged with the police.
The incident has sparked public interest, particularly given the ongoing political tensions within the constituency and concerns over media freedom and the safety of journalists.
