Here are NPP MPs seeking action against Ken Agyapong over Afari Hospital comments
Five Members of Parliament serving on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health have petitioned the Minority Leadership in Parliament over comments made by former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, concerning their recent visit to the Afari Military Hospital.
The petition, dated June 18, 2026, was addressed to the Minority Leadership and copied to the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer, General Secretary, and Council of Elders.
According to the MPs, the visit to the Afari Military Hospital on June 10, 2026, was undertaken with the full approval of the Minority Leadership to assess the status of the facility amid growing concerns about healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region, particularly challenges confronting the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The lawmakers explained that their delegation was denied entry into the facility by military personnel, resulting in a confrontation that subsequently attracted widespread public attention and criticism.
They indicated that in the aftermath of the incident, Kennedy Agyapong publicly criticised the visit and made comments which they believe were inconsistent with established facts regarding the hospital's status and operational readiness.
The petitioners stressed that the exercise was neither unauthorised nor undertaken independently. They noted that the Minority Leader, the Chief Whip, and the Deputy Chief Whip were all informed and had approved the visit.
In their view, it was therefore inappropriate for Mr. Agyapong to publicly condemn a decision that had received the endorsement of the Minority Leadership.
The MPs further maintained that the visit was a collective effort carried out in the public interest and in line with the objectives of the party. They argued that Mr. Agyapong's public remarks were unfortunate and had the potential to damage party cohesion and credibility.
The petition warned that failure to address the matter could undermine the authority of the Minority Leadership, encourage indiscipline within the party, and negatively affect the NPP's preparations for the 2028 general elections.
According to the lawmakers, public discourse had shifted from the substantive issues surrounding the Afari Military Hospital visit to what they described as avoidable internal disagreements within the party.
They consequently called on the Minority Leadership to publicly rebuke Mr. Agyapong for comments and actions they believe undermined the collective efforts and public image of the Minority Caucus.
The MPs also urged the leadership to refer the matter to the appropriate party structures for engagement and guidance to prevent similar occurrences and strengthen party unity, discipline, and cohesion.
The petition was signed by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, Ranking Member of the Health Committee and MP for Effiduase Asokore; Dr. Patrick Boachie Yiadom, MP for Obuasi East; Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, MP for Abuakwa South; Alexander Akwasi Acquah, MP for Akim Oda; and Frank Yeboah, MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North.
