66-year-old woman remanded over death of toddler in her care after alleged hot water burns
A 66-year-old woman has been remanded into custody after appearing before the Ashaiman Circuit Court on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of a toddler entrusted to her care.
The accused, Madam Josephine Avlekpor, is alleged to have caused the child's death through negligence after the toddler sustained severe burns while being bathed with hot water.
According to prosecutors, the child suffered extensive injuries during the incident and later succumbed to the burns.
Following her arraignment, the court formally charged Madam Avlekpor with manslaughter and ordered that she be held in custody pending further investigations and the continuation of legal proceedings.
The case has since been adjourned, with Madam Avlekpor expected to make a subsequent appearance before the court on a date yet to be announced.
