NDC holds Rawlings 79th birthday lecture with Tsatsu Tsikata as keynote speaker

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, is holding commemorative activities to mark the 79th birthday of the party’s founder, former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.

The programme, being held on Monday, June 22, forms part of efforts to honour the legacy of the late statesman under the theme “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.”

The main event will take place at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences near the CSIR in Accra, where a public lecture and exhibition are expected to be held.

Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata, will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.

Other speakers lined up for the event include Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, as well as Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security and Board Chairman of Ghana Gas.

Organisers say the event will reflect on Rawlings’ contribution to Ghana’s political history and his role in shaping the country’s Fourth Republic.

Members of the public, party supporters, cadres and sympathisers have been invited to participate in the commemoration.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the NDC leadership together with President John Dramani Mahama renamed the party’s national headquarters after the late former President, as part of broader activities to honour his memory and legacy.
