NPA shares love with inmates of Accra Psychiatric Hospital to mark Fathers' Day

National Petroleum Authority (NPA) donates essential supplies to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has donated essential supplies to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital in Accra in commemoration of Fathers’ Day and Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

The donation, which was made on Saturday, June 20, 2026, formed part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach which aims

at improving patient care and supporting efforts to raise awareness about men’s mental wellbeing.

The items presented included mattresses, toiletries, detergents and food items, as well as other essential supplies to support the hospital’s daily operations.

In his remarks, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the NPA, Mr. Maxwell Ampadu, said the initiative reflects the Authority’s commitment to compassion, dignity and social support for vulnerable groups, beyond its regulatory mandate in the downstream petroleum sector.

He noted that the coincidence of Father’s Day and Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in June presents an opportunity to highlight the importance of emotional wellbeing among men, urging them to speak openly about their challenges and seek help when necessary.

Responding, Senior Nurse, Ms Vida Tetteh explained that mental health conditions can be triggered by a combination of factors, including but not limited to;

genetic predisposition, family history, stress, substance abuse, infections and poor nutrition.

She further noted that many patients are brought in from the streets or abandoned by relatives, a situation that continues to place pressure on the facility’s resources and highlights the need for stronger community support systems.

She advised the public to manage stress, seek early professional care, and show empathy towards persons living with mental health conditions rather than stigmatizing them.

Ms Tetteh thanked the NPA for the kind gesture and indicated that the items would support the caregiving for the inmates of the hospital.
