If I Were in Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s Shoes

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong was recently asked for his opinion on the fact that the Afari Hospital is not yet operational. True to his form, he immediately challenged his own party's stance. Consequently, he has angered some party members. In this article, I would like to share my opinion on the matter and explain what I would do if I were Hon. Agyapong.

While Hon. Agyapong appeals to many outside the party, he remains unpopular within his own ranks due to his perceived impulsive nature. He is a divisive figure within the party, raising the question of why that is the case. To his detractors, his impulsiveness makes him seem uncontrollable—a trait they view as dangerous. They cannot imagine a president who might react harshly toward them. For instance, the prospect of a leader who could fire them on a whim for misconduct is terrifying to them. Furthermore, they loathe the idea of ​​a leader who cannot be swayed by sycophancy. All these aforementioned traits stand in stark contrast to the contender currently leading the party.

There is no doubt that Hon. Agyapong has largely remained true to his class. In other words, his convictions are hard to change. However, this perception was challenged when, following the party elections, he was seen campaigning for his rival. This occurred despite the public verbal clashes that took place during the race for the flagbearer position. Few believed that the two leaders shared similar ideologies or would ever work together.

Now, however, they are at each other's throats again. Following this latest attack on his party, many would expect Hon. Agyapong to remain true to his convictions. A leader should not behave like a chameleon, blowing hot and cold. Amidst the recent criticism of his party, he vowed to release damaging revelations next June. This statement implies that he is effectively campaigning against his own party. He must make good on this promise, or else he risks losing the trust people place in him.

All in all, Hon. Agyapong is unpopular within his party due to his perceived aggressive nature. Furthermore, he is unpredictable. If I were in his shoes, I would remain true to my convictions. It is common knowledge that he would be reluctant to break away from his party. Yet were I in his position, I would not categorically rule out that possibility either, should political differences one day become insurmountable.
