Two Pilgrims Arrested Over Alleged Assault on PAOG Communications Team Member
The Airport Police Command has arrested two pilgrims upon their arrival at the Accra International Airport for allegedly assaulting a member of the Communications Directorate of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) during this year's Hajj operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, the incident occurred at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah while the communications team member was carrying out his official duties. The report stated that he was taking photographs and recording videos as part of his assignment when he was physically attacked by the suspects.
Sources at the Ghana Hajj Board disclosed that the arrest was carried out following directives from Saudi Arabian authorities, who reportedly identified the suspects and shared their details and photographs with the relevant Ghanaian authorities to facilitate their apprehension upon arrival in Accra.
The two suspects, who arrived on the fourth return flight of Ghanaian pilgrims, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana has urged all pilgrims to respect officials and staff members assigned to serve them during Hajj operations. The office emphasized that its personnel work tirelessly to ensure the welfare, safety, and comfort of pilgrims and should be allowed to perform their duties without intimidation, harassment, or violence.
