CCLD Ghana mobilizes 100 women farmers to champion land rights and economic empowerment in Sekyere Afram Plains

A total of 100 women farmers from five communities in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region have participated in an emergency convening organized by CCLD Ghana to address critical challenges surrounding women's access to land and strengthen collective advocacy efforts for economic empowerment.

The gathering, which brought together participants from Dagomba, Dawia, Wenamda, Funsu and Anyinofi, forms part of the "Interrupting Structural Exclusion: Feminist Collective Action for Women's Land Rights" project being implemented by CCLD Ghana in collaboration with the District Department of Agriculture.

Addressing the participants, Executive Director of CCLD Ghana, Mr. Haruna Yoda, said the convening was aimed at validating findings from a recent baseline survey, identifying pressing concerns affecting women farmers, and building a stronger network of solidarity to advance women's land rights within local communities.

He noted that the platform enabled participants to critically review and confirm the survey findings while exploring practical and sustainable strategies to ensure greater inclusion of women in land ownership discussions and local governance structures.

Mr. Yoda encouraged the women to leverage the knowledge gained from the engagement to strengthen advocacy efforts in their communities and actively participate in decision-making processes that affect their livelihoods and agricultural productivity.

He further revealed that women farmers from the participating communities would soon begin forming organized groups to amplify their voices, promote collective action and pursue common development objectives.

He reaffirmed CCLD Ghana's commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance women's economic empowerment and equitable access to productive resources.

The Executive Director also commended the District Director of Agriculture and staff of the Department of Agriculture for their collaboration and support in making the convening a success.

According to him, the department's continued efforts in delivering extension services, technical assistance and access to agricultural support programmes have been instrumental in improving the productivity of women farmers across the district.

For his part, District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Daniel K. Adjei, urged participants to maintain close engagement with agricultural extension officers and embrace modern farming techniques to improve yields and strengthen food security.

An Agricultural Extension Officer, Madam Linda Nsiah, facilitated a session on the importance of farmer group formation, highlighting how organized community structures can enhance advocacy efforts, improve access to opportunities and drive sustainable local development.

The convening concluded with a strong commitment from the women farmers to champion women's economic justice, secure land rights for women and contribute to building resilient and food-secure communities across the Sekyere Afram Plains District.
