Don’t see Ken’s comment as war but opportunity for reconciliation — Kwasi Kwarteng to NPP leadership
Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for the concluded Kennedy Agyapong New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer campaign, has called for calm within the party, urging members not to interpret recent comments by the former Assin Central MP as a declaration of war.
His appeal follows renewed tensions within the NPP after Mr Agyapong threatened to “spill the beans” in a recent interview, a remark that has triggered internal debate over party unity and discipline.
The comments also came in the wake of earlier criticism by the former Assin Central MP over the incomplete Afari Military Hospital project, which sparked backlash from sections of the party.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ The Pulse on Friday, June 19, Kwarteng said the situation should instead be seen as an opportunity for reflection and reconciliation within the party.
“I see it as an issue of bringing out how the party manages disagreements and addresses the concerns of its members, irrespective of where it is coming from,” he said.
He stressed that internal disagreements should not be misinterpreted as hostility against the party, but rather as part of a healthy democratic culture within political organisations.
“Honesty and fairness should not be seen as an attack on the party necessarily, but should be viewed as an opportunity for reflection, an opportunity for proper and thorough reconciliation,” he stated.
The NPP communicator argued that strong political parties are not those without disagreements, but those that develop effective systems to manage and resolve internal disputes.
He said the current situation presents an opportunity for party leadership to strengthen its reconciliation structures and avoid prolonged internal conflict.
