Woman dies, three injured in trailer crash at Kariminga in North East
A woman has lost her life while three men sustained injuries following a road accident involving a trailer truck at Kariminga in the North East Region.
The crash occurred on Thursday, June 18, when a trailer transporting Twyford tiles from Takoradi to Burkina Faso veered off the road and crashed into several trees.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at 9:48 a.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of a rescue team from the Upper East Regional Headquarters Substation.
Upon arrival, firefighters found four occupants trapped inside the badly damaged trailer head. Rescue personnel successfully extricated three male victims, who were later transported by the National Ambulance Service to the Upper East Regional Hospital for medical treatment.
The female occupant, however, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was subsequently handed over to the police for preservation and further investigations.
The rescue operation was led by Station Officer I Bright Atimbiok and a six member crew, with support from the Bolgatanga Municipal Commander, DO II Callistus Nibunu, and other senior officers.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the trailer driver attempted to avoid a tricycle that unexpectedly crossed the road at Kariminga. In the process, the driver reportedly swerved into a ditch before crashing into several trees.
The impact caused extensive damage to the trailer head and destroyed a substantial portion of the cargo, although some of the tiles were recovered.
The operation concluded at 1:40 p.m., while investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
