One killed in fatal collision at Ako Adjei Interchange

A man has died following a road traffic accident involving a KIA Rhino truck and a saloon vehicle at the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, prompting an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after a distress call was received at 1:16 a.m.

A rescue team from the GNFS Headquarters, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Yussif Yakubu, arrived at the scene within six minutes and found the driver of the saloon vehicle trapped inside the wreckage.

A medical team that assessed the victim confirmed that he had died at the scene.

Firefighters subsequently conducted an extrication operation, using specialised rescue techniques to remove the vehicle's door and steering wheel before retrieving the body. The operation was completed at 2:14 a.m.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the saloon vehicle crashed into the rear of a stationary truck that had reportedly developed a fault and was parked on the road.

Authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
