Black Stars World Cup opener win has inspired hope among Ghanaians — Vice President

The Vice President of the Republic, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has congratulated the Black Stars following their opening victory against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto.

Ghana secured a narrow 1-0 win in their Group L opener on Thursday, June 17, marking a strong start to their campaign at the global football tournament.

The Vice President, who was present at the stadium and seen cheering after the decisive goal, said the result has lifted national morale and renewed hope among citizens.

“Congratulations to the Black Stars on their victory over Panama in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto,” she said.

“This victory reflects the hard work and preparation that go into representing Ghana on the world stage. It has inspired hope among Ghanaians everywhere,” she added.

She noted that the team’s performance reflects the preparation and commitment invested in representing the country on the global stage.

The Vice President assured the team of government’s continued support as they progress in the tournament.

She urged the players to remain focused, disciplined and united in their upcoming matches, stressing that the entire nation stands behind them.
