Government intensifies fight against encroachment with new land protection task force

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has inaugurated a new taskforce to strengthen the protection of state-owned lands in the Greater Accra Region.

The 20-member Land Protection Task Force brings together personnel from the Lands Commission, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

It is expected to step up monitoring, inspection and surveillance activities to curb encroachment and safeguard public lands.

“I officially inaugurated the Land Protection Task Force, commencing critical operations in the Greater Accra Region,” Mr. Buah said.

He explained that the unit has been structured as a multi-agency team to enhance enforcement and improve coordination in land administration.

According to him, the taskforce will play a key role in protecting public lands that continue to face pressure from illegal acquisition and encroachment.

“Their core mandate is to protect and preserve all public lands owned by the state,” he stated.

The Minister charged members of the taskforce to carry out their duties with discipline, integrity and strict adherence to the law.

He further emphasized the need for professionalism in their operations to ensure public confidence in the exercise.

“I have firmly charged every member of this task force to discharge their duties with the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and absolute adherence to the rule of law,” Mr. Buah added.

The taskforce is expected to begin full-scale operations across the region as part of ongoing efforts to sanitize land administration in the country.
