Meet the new team Bawumia appointed to his office ahead of 2028
Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced a new leadership structure for his office, appointing seasoned politician Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Chief of Staff in a move aimed at strengthening the party's post-election reorganisation efforts.
The appointment places the former Suame Member of Parliament in charge of coordinating the activities of Dr. Bawumia's office as the NPP charts a path towards rebuilding following its loss in the 2024 general election.
Widely respected within the party for his extensive legislative and leadership experience, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is expected to play a central role in shaping strategy and ensuring effective coordination among the various units within the office.
Throughout his political career, he established himself as one of Parliament's most influential figures, serving in both Majority and Minority leadership positions and later as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs. His long tenure in Parliament and deep understanding of party structures are expected to be key assets as the NPP seeks to reconnect with its grassroots and reposition itself for future elections.
The restructuring also includes the appointment of a number of senior party figures and former government officials to oversee critical operational areas.
Former Suhum MP Frederick Opare-Ansah has been assigned responsibility for special projects and identifiable activities, while former NPP National Chairman Peter Mac Manu will lead political strategy and stakeholder engagement efforts.
Former BOST Managing Director Fred Oware has been appointed Political Advisor, providing strategic guidance to Dr. Bawumia on political and organisational matters.
Communications and public engagement activities will be coordinated by former STC Managing Director Nana Akomea, who takes charge of Communication and Branding. Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah will oversee policy coordination and development, supported by policy analyst Evon Hughes.
Former Deputy Roads and Highways Minister Anthony Abayifa Karbo has been tasked with Organisation and Youth Inclusion, a role expected to focus on grassroots mobilisation and engagement with young party supporters. Dr. Ekua Amoako has also been named spokesperson for the office.
The new appointments form part of a broader effort to establish a strong operational team capable of driving political strategy, policy development, communications, and party mobilisation as the NPP prepares for the next phase of its political journey.
Party insiders say the reorganisation reflects Dr. Bawumia's determination to build a united and effective team that can lead the party's recovery and strengthen its competitiveness ahead of future national elections.
