Sam George announces major reduction in MTN Fibre broadband prices effective June 17
The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced a significant reduction in MTN Ghana's fibre broadband prices following discussions between the government and the telecommunications company aimed at making internet services more affordable for Ghanaians.
In a social media post on Wednesday, June 17, the minister revealed that the engagement had resulted in substantial cuts to MTN's unlimited fibre broadband packages.
According to him, customers who previously paid GH¢987 for a one-month unlimited 100 Mbps broadband package will now pay GH¢299.
“Effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed,” he stated.
Under the new pricing structure, subscribers can also access a 300 Mbps unlimited broadband package for GH¢444 per month, while a 500 Mbps unlimited package will cost GH¢999 monthly.
Mr. George said the reduction was in response to growing public demand for affordable, stable and reliable broadband services across the country.
“You demanded. We engaged. MTN Ghana has responded,” he wrote.
The minister commended the management and staff of MTN Ghana for responding positively to concerns raised by consumers and government regarding broadband affordability.
“I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he said.
He further assured Ghanaians that the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations would continue to engage telecommunications service providers to secure better pricing and improved service quality.
“From the Ministry, we will continue to push for better service packages for the Ghanaian people,” he added.
The price reduction is expected to provide relief for households, businesses, remote workers, students and content creators who rely on high-speed internet connectivity for their daily activities.
