Anlo Dukor Council bans drumming and noise-making ahead of Hogbetsotso Festival

The Anlo Dukor Council, acting in consultation with the Office of the Awoamefia of Anlo, Overlord and Spiritual Head of Anlo State, has announced a ban on drumming and noise-making throughout Anlo Dukor.

The ban takes effect from Monday, 10th August, 2026 to Saturday, 29th August, 2026.

The customary directive forms part of sacred preparations towards the annual Hogbetsotso Festival and related ancestral observances.

According to the Council, this is a spiritually significant period marked by reflection, purification, and solemnity in line with Anlo traditions.

During the ban period, no form of drumming, loud music, funeral celebrations involving noise, or any public noise-making activity will be entertained. All residents, religious organizations, institutions, event organizers, and visitors within the 36 towns under Anlo jurisdiction are respectfully directed to strictly observe the directive.

The prohibition includes drumming and use of loud musical instruments, outdoor musical performances or celebrations, and any form of excessive or amplified noise likely to disrupt the sanctity of the period.

The Awoamefia has called on all to uphold the dignity of the sacred period. Enforcement will be carried out by traditional taskforces in collaboration with local authorities and security agencies to ensure full compliance, as Anlo unites to maintain peace, unity, and revered customs.
