'You can do it again' — Bawumia inspires Black Stars ahead of World Cup
2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has encouraged the Black Stars ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions begin their fifth World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, in a crucial Group L encounter.
Ghana has been drawn alongside England, Croatia and Panama in a challenging group as the Black Stars seek to make a strong start to the tournament.
In a video message shared ahead of the game, the former Vice President expressed confidence in the team's ability to make the nation proud, drawing inspiration from their previous successes on the world stage.
"Black Stars, you have done it before, and you can do it again," Dr. Bawumia said.
He noted that football remains a unifying force for Ghanaians and urged the players to approach the tournament with determination and belief.
According to him, the support of the entire country is behind the team as they begin their quest for World Cup glory.
"The nation is behind you, and I am behind you. Go for gold! Go, Black Stars," he added.
The Black Stars qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after an impressive qualifying campaign and will be hoping to better their historic quarter-final finish achieved at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
A positive result against Panama would boost Ghana's chances of progressing from the group stage before facing England and Croatia in their subsequent matches.
