Judgement on Samreboi illegal mining case will either disgrace or glorify the judge – Lawyer Appiah Kubi
Lawyer for Chairman Wontumi, Andy Appiah Kubi, has insisted that whoever decides on the judgement in the Samreboi illegal mining judgement will either be disgraced or be full of glory.
According to him, the evidence presented before the court is glaring, indicating that the decision to be taken will either glorify or shame the presiding judge involved.
“The evidence available provides us with two possible outcomes, shame or glory. So whoever takes the decision on the case and the evidence presented to the court, either the person will be disgraced or will be glorified by the final judgment,” he told the media.
He further indicated that although his application to withdraw from the case has been dismissed, he will file for notice of withdrawal to leave the case as Lawyer for Chairman Wontumi.
Chairman Wontumi has been charged with one count of assignment of mineral rights without approval, and another count of purposely facilitating an unlicensed mining operation, contrary to Section 99(2)(b) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) as amended by Section 3 of the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).
His company, Akonta Mining and another person identified as Kwame Antwi, who is on the run, have been charged with the same offences. They have both denied the charges.
