KMA Deploys Vacuum Sweepers to Tackle Dust, Waste and Flooding in Kumasi

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in partnership with sanitation firm City Expert Group, has rolled out a fleet of vacuum sweeper trucks to reduce waste and road dust across the metropolis.

Speaking to journalists during a demonstration exercise in Kumasi, Abubakar Shaibu, Manager in charge of workers at City Expert Group, said the initiative is designed to clear dust and debris from major roads—materials that often clog drains and waterways during rainfall and contribute to flooding.

He said the company is fully prepared to deliver on its mandate to help keep Kumasi clean and curb the city’s perennial flooding challenges.

Mr Shaibu urged residents to support the government’s sanitation drive, stressing that improved hygiene and environmental health remain key priorities for Kumasi and the wider Ashanti Region.

He cautioned traders in the Central Business District against dumping dust into roadside gutters after sweeping.

“Dispose of dust at the appropriate places after sweeping to support the Assembly’s agenda of reducing dust and debris on our roads,” he advised.

He added that the vacuum sweepers will also help protect the city’s tiled roads, noting that excessive dust buildup shortens their lifespan.

Some residents welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the sweepers will help keep the city cleaner and reduce flooding during the rainy season.
