By God's grace, I'll join Christian Council's 100th anniversary in 2029 as President — Bawumia

The 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed confidence that he will become President of Ghana in 2029.

The former Vice President made the remarks during a consultative meeting with the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana on Thursday, June 11.

The engagement focused on national development, unity and collaboration between religious institutions and political leaders to promote peace and prosperity in the country.

Addressing members of the Council, Dr. Bawumia congratulated the council's newly elected leadership and reflected on the organisation's long-standing contribution to Ghana's development.

Noting that the Christian Council, established in 1929, will celebrate its centenary in 2029, he expressed hope of joining the celebration as President.

"In 2029, you'll be 100 years old. By the grace of God, I'll be president by then and we'll celebrate together," he said.

Dr. Bawumia described the Christian Council as one of the country's most important institutions, citing its contributions to education, healthcare, social development, environmental sustainability and national cohesion.

He particularly praised mission schools for their role in shaping generations of leaders and professionals, arguing that Ghana's educational landscape would be significantly poorer without their contribution.

According to him, many mission schools were once centres of excellence whose standards have declined over the years due to changes in their management structures.

"Unfortunately, we interfered in their management. And as we always say, when something is not broken, don't try to fix it. Excellence should have been maintained, and the formula which made them centres of excellence should have been maintained," he stated.
