VIDEO: Suspected thief caught in house ceiling claims he was hiding from rain, made to clean shop as punishment
A suspected thief was apprehended in a residential property in Accra after he was allegedly caught on the ceiling of a house during a heavy downpour.
According to eyewitnesses, residents became suspicious after noticing unusual movements and noises coming from the ceiling. Upon investigation, they reportedly discovered a man hiding in the roof space of the building.
The suspect was accused of attempting to steal electrical wires from the house, a growing concern in some communities where thieves target wiring and other valuable materials for resale.
However, when questioned by residents, the man denied any intention of stealing. He claimed that he had entered the ceiling merely to seek shelter from the heavy rainfall and was not there to commit any criminal act.
His explanation was met with skepticism from residents, many of whom found it difficult to believe that someone would choose a house ceiling as a refuge from the rain.
A video circulating on social media shows the suspect surrounded by residents as he tried to explain his presence in the building. Rather than handing him over immediately to the police, some community members reportedly assigned him various chores.
The suspect was allegedly made to clean a nearby shop and perform other menial tasks as punishment for his actions. Onlookers watched as he carried out the work under supervision.
