Any SMS or platform offering discounted DVLA fines is fraudulent — DVLA cautions public

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has cautioned the public against fraudulent SMS messages and online platforms being used by scammers to collect money under the guise of official fines.

The Authority says it has observed a growing number of fake messages being circulated to unsuspecting motorists, often containing links that redirect users to unofficial payment portals.

These platforms, according to DVLA, are designed to mimic official communication channels and pressure recipients into making urgent payments.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 10, the Authority advised the public to disregard such messages and avoid engaging with them.

"The DVLA does not offer discounts on fines. Any SMS, website, platform, or person claiming to offer discounted DVLA fines is fraudulent," the statement read in part.

DVLA explained that the scammers typically send SMS messages with embedded links, which when clicked, lead users to fake websites requesting payment of alleged fines.

The Authority emphasised that its only approved online payment gateway is the Government of Ghana’s official portal, Ghana.gov.gh.

"The only acceptable online payment gateway for DVLA transactions is the Government of Ghana's official payment platform, https://www.Ghana.gov.gh," the statement noted.

DVLA stressed that its official website remains www.dvla.gov.gh, noting that any other links or platforms claiming affiliation should be treated as fraudulent.

It urged the public not to click suspicious links, share personal information, or make payments through unverified channels.

The Authority encouraged citizens to report such scam messages to the nearest DVLA office or law enforcement agencies for swift action.
