“Give peace a chance” — Bawku MCE appeals as residents turn out for Sanitation Day
The Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, Isaac Azunaba Atilaat, has appealed to residents to preserve the relative peace the municipality has enjoyed over the past five months.
He made the call during a Municipal Sanitation Day exercise held on Saturday, which recorded a strong turnout from traditional leaders, elders, market women, senior high school students, and residents across Bawku.
According to Mr Atilaat, the level of participation reflects growing confidence in the peace process and signs of stability returning to the area.
“The number of people who turned out for this cleaning exercise shows that relative peace is returning to Bawku,” the MCE said. “I appeal to all and sundry to give peace a chance. We should not do anything that will take this town back to its previous challenges.”
He also encouraged residents to take responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings, adding: “Ensure there is cleanliness around your surroundings.”
The sanitation exercise saw participants cleaning major streets, markets, and drainage systems through sweeping, desilting gutters, and clearing refuse.
The Secretary to the Zugraan, Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, also urged residents, particularly the youth, to sustain the prevailing calm and avoid actions that could disrupt peace.
Bawku has recorded relative stability in recent months following years of intermittent conflict.
