Apagya SHS retains title as champions of 2026 World Environment Day Quiz

Reigning champions Apagya Senior High School in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region have successfully defended their title, emerging winners of the 2026 World Environment Day Quiz Competition held on Friday, 5 June 2026.

The competition was organised by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine in partnership with the Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), the Keeping Obuasi Clean Campaign (KOCC), and the KNUST Obuasi Campus, as part of activities marking this year’s World Environment Day.

Apagya SHS clinched the top spot with 26 points, earning the coveted trophy and a GHC 50,000 school‑based project support package.

New Edubiase Senior High School followed closely with 24.5 points, while Obuasi Senior High Technical School placed third with 24 points.

The winning contestants, Robert Odame Addo and Raymond Donkor, also received laptops, backpacks, notebooks, exercise books, and other educational materials.

The contest began with an essay‑writing stage involving 11 schools, from which five advanced to the grand finale.

Other activities marking World Environment Day included environmental education campaigns, radio discussions, and monitoring of school tree‑planting exercises across the municipality.

Speaking at the event, Closure Manager Francis Sarfo underscored the importance of environmental stewardship and encouraged students and community members to protect natural resources and adopt sustainable practices.

Held under the theme “Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future,” this year’s celebration reaffirmed AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s commitment to environmental responsibility and its dedication to empowering young people to lead climate action and sustainable environmental management.
