Speaker's educational support changing lives in Nadwoli-Kaleo - DCE

Speaker of Parliament and DCE of Nadwoli-Kaleo

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadwoli-Kaleo, Hon. Mary Haruna, has lauded the Speaker of Parliament for his longstanding commitment to education development in the district, describing his interventions as transformative and impactful to generations of students.

Speaking at a ceremony to present school uniforms to pupils across the district at the DA Conference Hall, Hon. Haruna said the donation was more than a distribution exercise, noting that it demonstrated a strong commitment to improving educational access and outcomes.

According to her, the provision of school uniforms would help reduce the financial burden on families, improve school attendance, boost pupils' confidence and encourage children to remain in school and focus on their studies.

Hon. Haruna expressed profound appreciation to the Speaker of Parliament for what she described as decades of support for education in the district.

“As a proud son of this district, he has consistently demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the development of education in Nadwoli-Kaleo,” she stated, adding that the Speaker's numerous interventions had positively impacted countless students, teachers and schools across the district.

The DCE noted that although the district was celebrating the latest educational intervention, challenges remained within the education sector, particularly with recent performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

She observed that the district's BECE results over the past four years had not been as encouraging as expected and called for collective efforts to improve learning outcomes and academic performance.

“This situation calls for reflection and collective action,” she said.

Hon. Haruna stressed that improving educational outcomes could not be left to government alone but required the active involvement of parents, teachers, traditional authorities, religious leaders, development partners and the pupils themselves.

She urged stakeholders to renew their commitment to strengthening teaching and learning, enhancing supervision and promoting discipline in schools to ensure that every child had the opportunity to succeed.

The DCE also commended the Member of Parliament for Nadwoli-Kaleo, Hon. Anthony M. Sumah, for his contributions to educational development within the constituency.

She further acknowledged the support of the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, for initiatives aimed at advancing education and development in the region.

Hon. Haruna also praised President John Dramani Mahama for implementing educational policies and programmes designed to improve access, equity and quality education across the country, particularly for children in underserved communities.

Addressing teachers, parents and pupils, she called on them to play their respective roles in ensuring that educational interventions translated into improved learning outcomes and better academic performance.

She encouraged pupils who benefited from the uniforms to wear them with pride, remain disciplined and strive for academic excellence.

The presentation of the uniforms formed part of efforts to support vulnerable pupils, improve school attendance and promote quality education in the Nadwoli-Kaleo District.
